Sample Lesson Plan (13-18yrs)

Objective: To promote an understanding of The UN Global Goals and how they apply to everyone as Global Citizens and future stewards of the world.

Lesson Plan: Set Up

This lesson is best run in a space where you can arrange the chairs in a circle so everyone can feed in their ideas and then split off into smaller working groups. It is helpful to have a flipchart or board and copies of each UN Global Goals- downloadable here.

Part 1: Theory

  • History of the UN Global Goals (otherwise known as Sustainable Development Goals) and the global declaration towards achieving these by 2030. Further info

  • Introduce the concept of Global Citizenship and what this means in terms of their lives and choices. Further Info. We often do something here asking whether students in Malawi have the same responsibility/roles as global citizens.

Part 2: Practical

Split into smaller groups and hand out the Global Goals cards- downloadable here.

  • Discuss how this global goal applies to your lives. Is that the same for a young person in a context like Malawi?

  • Feedback.

Sit back as a whole group.

  • Lay all the Goals out in a line- which are the most important to try and tackle now?

  • Would the line up be the same for a Malawian student?

  • What is your UN Global Goal pledge? Contact us to receive a sample pledge card for your school.
